The 101 Dalmatians villain who gave kids nightmares is coming back in a live-action origin story

You might need to sit down for this one – remember Cruella De Vil? Of course, you do. The 101 Dalmatians villain who gave kids nightmares is coming back in a live-action origin story, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Who gets to play the legend? Emma Stone.

The report goes on to say that Craig Gillespie of I, Tonya fame will be directing the movie after Alex Timbers backed out due to scheduling issues. That’s not all – this supposed origin story will feature a punk Cruella. “Stone will play infamous villain Cruella De Vil in what is being billed as an origin story, set in the 1980s with a punk vibe,” THR reports.

Of course, when we first heard about the speculation surrounding Cruella (the movie, not the icon), we were not so sure about Stone as the lead character. One would expect a Meryl Streep or Angelina Jolie to play the part like they were born for it. In fact, while Glenn Close was brilliant in the 1996 live-action remake, we would love to see Streep play the character – something tells us that it will be about as amazing as her portrayal of Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada.

However, Stone as a punk De Vil seems delicious, to say the least.
