Dua Lipa has called out DaBaby after he made homophobic comments made during his set at Rolling Loud Miami over the weekend.
Taking over Instagram stories, the singer said she couldn’t disagree more with the rapper’s statements. “I’m surprised and horrified at DaBaby’s comments. I really don’t recognize this as the person I worked with,” she wrote. “I know my fans know where my heart lies and that I stand 100% with the LGTBQ community. We need to come together to fight the stigma and ignorance around HIV/AIDS.”
During his set at Rolling Loud’s closing night Sunday, DaBaby told the crowd, “If you didn’t show up today with HIV, AIDS, or any of them deadly sexually transmitted diseases, that’ll make you die in two to three weeks, then put your cellphone lighter up! Ladies, if your p—y smell like water, put your cellphone lighter up! Fellas, if you ain’t sucking di– in the parking lot, put your cellphone lighter up!”
The rapper defended his actions in a series of 19 videos in his Instagram Stories yesterday, saying: “What I do at a live show is for the audience at the live show. It’ll never translate correctly to somebody looking at a little five, six-second clip from their goddamn crib on their phone.”
He later posted: “Anybody who done ever been effected by AIDS/HIV y’all got the right to be upset, what I said was insensitive even though I have no intentions on offending anybody. So my apologies,” he stated, adding, “But the LGBT community… I ain’t trippin on y’all, do you. y’all business is y’all business.”
Lipa, whose Levitating remix features a verse from DaBaby – said in a post to her Instagram Story: “I really don’t recognise this as the person I worked with. I know my fans know where my heart lies and that I stand 100 per cent with the LGTBQ community. We need to come together to fight the stigma and ignorance around HIV/AIDS.”
