2022 has been a year of many firsts for Alia Bhatt. Not only did she get married to Ranbir Kapoor and has a baby arriving soon, but she will also mark her debut as a producer with Darlings . The Netflix film is a mystery drama that stars Bhatt in the lead role along with Vijay Varma and Shefali Shah. What is the film about? The newly released trailer answers that question. 

The dark comedy-drama revolves around the lives of a mother-daughter duo trying to find their place in Mumbai. Varma plays Bhatt’s husband in the Jasmeet K-Reen-directorial who is abducted by the duo. The drama follows the pair trying to hide the kidnapping by pretending to be the bereaved partners trying to find him. 

Bhatt shared the trailer and wrote, “My first film as a producer!!! So excited nervous thrilled emotional to share it with you!!!! DARLINGS TRAILER OUT NOW!.” Netizens poured their love, dropping hearts under the post. Filmmaker Shakun Batra wrote, “So proud of you Al!! Congratulations!!!”

Fans were delighted to watch Bhatt in this new avatar. The nuanced comedy, cast and story have managed to garner a lot of adulation and people are eager to see what else is in store. Twitter, naturally, is flooded with commentaries.

The music for Darlings has been composed by Vishal Bhardwaj and the lyrics have been written by Gulzar. The film is also backed by Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chilies Entertainment. Slated to release on Netflix on August 5, the film also features Malayalam actor, Roshan Mathew.

Apart from this, Bhatt will star next in the much-awaited movie, Brahmastra , which is currently in the post-production stage. The film marks her first film with Ayan Mukerji and Ranbir Kapoor. And it also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna Akkineni and Mouni Roy.
