Ever wondered what happens when a bear does a large amount of cocaine? The good news is, you don’t have to imagine it. The first trailer of Cocaine Bear (yes, that’s the actual title) an upcoming black comedy movie has finally arrived and it’s something. Here’s what the official synopsis reads like – “After a failed drug smuggling operation, a black bear ingests a large amount of cocaine and goes on a drug-fueled rampage.”
Starring the late Ray Liotta as a titular character, the movie is based on a real-life incident that happened in 1985 when a plane transporting 40kg of cocaine crashed over the Chattahoochee National Forest in Georgia. This cocaine was subsequently consumed by a black bear, which the authorities found dead in the forest.
But fret not, the actual movie seems way more entertaining, leaning into the absurdity of the situation from the get-go. The trailer opens with a pair of paramedics arriving at a ravaged cabin, and being attacked by the bear, which we assume is already high on cocaine. The rest of the trailer paints a picture of over-the-top violence and Freddy Krueger-eqsue jump scares.
As mentioned earlier, the Elizabeth Banks-directed movie stars the late Ray Liotta along with Keri Russell, O’Shea Jackson, Jr, Christian Convery-Jennings, Alden Ehrenreich, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Brooklynn Prince, Isiah Whitlock Jr, Kristofer Hivju, Hannah Hoekstra, Aaron Holliday, and Emmy winner Margo Martindale.
The movie is slated for a theatre release on February 24, 2023. In case, that’s too long of a wait, you can visit the actual, now-stuffed bear in Lexington, Kentucky. Oh, did we mention, he’s called “Pablo EscoBear”?
