Bohemian Rhapsody went four-for-five at this years Academy Awards. The film won more awards than any other film.

The movie won for Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, Best Film Editing and Best Actor, for Malek’s uncanny portrayal of the late Queen front-man, Freddie Mercury. The film only faced one loss the whole night, losing out the Oscar for Best Picture to the Viggo Mortensen-Mahershala Ali starrer, Green Book.

Malek is the first actor of Arab descent to win an Oscar – he is the second actor of Arab descent to be nominated for one, the first being Omar Sharif, the star of Lawrence of Arabia.

“To anyone trying to discover their voice, listen – we made a film about a gay man and immigrant who lived his life unapologetically himself,” he said, in his acceptance speech, adding: “The fact that I’m celebrating him and this story with you tonight is proof that we’re longing for stories like this.”

“I am the son of immigrants from Egypt, a first-generation American. And part of my story is being written right now. And I could not be more grateful to each and every one of you, and everyone who believed in me for this moment. It’s something I will treasure for the rest of my life,” he added.

Bohemian Rhapsody was one of the most financially successful films of 2018. The movie earned over $850 million at the box office, more than 17 times its reported $50 million production budget. It also helped push Queen back into the limelight, with the film’s titular song reentering the Billboard Hot 100 chart for the first time since 1992 (propelled by the film, Wayne’s World).
