Online beefs are far too many. Sure, our personal lives have enough drama, but it’s a lot more entertaining when celebrities get into a tiff. And Cardi B is no stranger to fights, especially after her infamous heel-throwing fight with Nicki Minaj. But this time, her opponent wasn’t a musician, but Carole Baskin.
This all started shortly after the release of Cardi B’s latest single with Megan Thee Stallion. The artist released a sultry music video where she and Stallion twerk, dance and pose with exotic, big cats throughout the video. This didn’t sit well with Carole Baskin. She voiced her opinion in an interview with Billboard, claiming Cardi B acquired the big cats through an agency that ill-treats the animals.
“You have to pose a wildcat in front of a green screen to get that image and that doesn’t happen in the wild.
“It can’t happen in sanctuaries like ours where cats have plenty of room to avoid a green screen (or would shred it if offered access and could die from ingesting it).
“That tells me they probably dealt with one of the big cat pimps, who makes a living from beating, shocking and starving cats to make them stand on cue in front of a green screen in a studio. That’s never good for the cat.”
But Cardi B was ready to retaliate. “I’m not gonna engage with Carole Baskin on that. Like, that’s just ridiculous you know? Like, girl, you killed your goddamn husband,” she said in an interview with i-D.
If you didn’t know, Cardi B’s statement references the situation depicted in the mega-hit Netflix series, Tiger King. Apart from the lives of Joe Exotic and Baskin herself, Tiger King delved into the disappearance of Don Lewis, Baskin’s second husband. The show deeply explored claims that believe Baskin killed him and fed him to the tigers at their Big Cat Rescue sanctuary.
As for Cardi B, the success of her single, WAP, only grows by the day. The video has already garnered over 100 million views just within a week of its release. As if Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion weren’t enough, the video also features a number of female stars including Normani, Rosalia, Rubi Rose, Sukihana, Mulatto and Kylie Jenner.
