Ajay Devgn is all set to impress the audience with his upcoming directorial Runway 34. Touted to be a high-octane thriller based on true events, the film will see the actor stepping into the shoes of a pilot alongside Amitabh Bachchan, Boman Irani, and Rakul Preet Singh in key roles.
The trailer of Runway 34 promised to keep fans on the edge of their seats. Based on true events, the film comes with the tagline, “The truth is hidden 35,000 feet above the ground.”
Ajay Devgn on why he chose Runway 34 as the film’s title
In a new video on Instagram, Ajay Devgn explained why he chose Runway 34 as the film’s title. He said, “It’s like the runway of life zero visibility, no vision, dangerous brace for impact.”
During the trailer launch, Ajay Devgn said that he would not have made Runway 34 if Amitabh Bachchan hadn’t agreed to be a part of it. He said, “In this film, for Mr Bachchan’s role, if he wouldn’t have agreed, I don’t even know if I would be able to cast (any other actor). I don’t think I would be making the film.”
He added, “This is the first time I worked with him in a full-fledged film (as a director). I’ve known him ever since I was a child. I would visit his set often. Later, I went on to work with him in nearly six films. To say anything about him would be cliched because I haven’t seen any other hardworking, professional actor.”
Amitabh Bachchan on why he said yes to Runway 34
Amitabh Bachchan, who plays a pivotal role in the film, spoke about why he decided to be a part of the film. Taking Ajay Devgn as the sole reason, he said, “Ajay and I have had a long association that began with his father, Veeru Devgan. We spent many, many years together. His contribution was there in my films during our times.”
Ajay Devgn’s last directorial venture was Shivaay in 2016. Runway 34 was earlier titled MayDay and it’s a story that revolves around a real incident that took place on the 2015 Jet Airways Doha-Kochi flight. The jet narrowly escaped disaster after facing difficulties due to poor visibility. The film’s cast also features Carry Minati.
Runway 34 will hit the theatres on April 29.
