Father-son duo Anil and Harshvardhan Kapoor are set to appear in Thar, a period-thriller set to release in summer 2022.
Set in the 1980s, the film follows the story of a man who moves to a big town aiming to find work and seek revenge for his past. It also marks the feature directorial debut of Raj Singh Chaudhary, who has also penned the film’s script, along with dialogue contributions from his longtime friend and mentor, Anurag Kashyap.
Kapoor’s Next Big Adventure
Produced by Kapoor himself, the film also features Fatima Sana Shaikh and Satish Kaushik. While plot details remain unclear, one of the shared stills shows Kapoor in a police officer’s uniform which is a tiny hint about his role. A closer look at his officer’s badge reveals his character’s name — Surekha Singh.
“The genre itself is a noir thriller set in Rajasthan that pays tribute to the genre of the classic Western is a first for Indian cinema and audiences. ‘Thar’ is a playground where the dynamism of new blood meets the experience of industry stalwarts, both on and off screen,” said Kapoor, who produced through his Anil Kapoor Film Company Network. “As an actor and a producer, I have always strived to push the envelope and disrupt the status quo with innovative content. ‘Thar’ is a manifestation of this obsession.”
Meanwhile Netflix India’s Films and Licensing Director, Pratiksha Rao, addressed the AKFC collaboration in a statement:
“Bringing to them the most entertaining and diverse films is not possible without taking creative swings with passionate filmmakers, and Thar is an example of such storytelling. We were drawn towards Raj’s passionate vision for the unique story, and were excited to collaborate with AKFC.”
The film comes in as the first feature production attempted by AKFC since 2018’s Veere Di Wedding, which was picked apart by critics despite being a box office success.
