While Johnny Depp is busy playing at concerts and making Tik Tok videos, Amber Heard stayed away from the public eye after the defamation trial verdict was announced. Now, however, she has given her first interview after the whole ordeal. She talked about everything trial and even called Depp an ‘amazing actor’.
Well, we sense she didn’t mean this in a good way. Heard was talking about how the jury was biased towards Depp because people love him. She told NBC, “I don’t blame them. I actually understand. He is a beloved character and people feel they know him. He’s a fantastic actor.”
She went on to talk about how the scrutiny on social media and the trolling was unfair. “I don’t care what one thinks about me or what judgments you want to make about what happened in the privacy of my own home, in my marriage, behind closed doors. I don’t presume the average person should know those things. And so I don’t take it personally,” she added.
Heard continued, “But even for somebody who is sure I’m deserving of all this hate and vitriol, even if you think that I’m lying, you still couldn’t look me in the eye and tell me that you think on social media there’s been a fair representation. You cannot tell me that you think that this has been fair.”
Depp won the defamation case, with Heard now liable to pay the star a sum of $15 million in damages. The jury also ruled in favour of Heard, keeping in mind the accusations she made against Depp. She was awarded $2 million in damages. Depp had an emotional moment after the verdict was announced and he took to Instagram to thank everyone for their support.
In 2018, Johnny Depp sued Amber Heard after she wrote an op-ed in The Washington Post. She had talked about domestic abuse and called herself a survivor. The duo got married in 2015 and divorced in 2017.
