Vicky Kaushal is taking B-town by a storm today, giving us one refreshing, new story after the next. We know the actor from movies such as Masaan, Raman Raghav 2.0, Uri, amongst many more.
Gracing this month’s MW cover, Kaushal discussed the one audition that served as his wake-up call.
Back in the day, Vicky Kaushal had auditioned for a minuscule role in Farhan Akhtar starrer Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. However, he ended up not getting it.
In an interview for this month’s cover story, he elaborated on that experience. “I was bound to get rejected,” he thought out loud. “That is when I got the shock of my life, that am I meant to be an actor? That was my first audition ever. It was a very small part in the film and when I auditioned and met the casting team, it was me who realised that I know nothing.” He remembers thinking he had a lot to learn about acting and that at that point he was not as well versed with the craft as he would want to be. The experience had awakened fear in him and served as a wake-up call, more than a rejection. “That was an important day of my life. I could not sleep,” he said.
According to the actor, one must not run from failure, “without failure, there is no success. It also does not mean that you have to fall to fail, you could actually start with failure. Every person who has seen failure, will understand the value of success.”
He currently has many films in the works, working to counter the time lost to lockdowns. Sardar Udham Singh, finished right before the lockdown, Immortal Ashwatthama with Aditya Dhar, and Sam Manekshaw with Meghna Gulzar are some of his works to look out for soon.
