In a celebration of Indian craftsmanship and luxury, Taj and Diageo India have unveiled the ‘Godawan Single Malt, Exclusive to the Palaces of Taj’. This collaboration marries the heritage and prestige of Taj’s grand palaces with the artisanal excellence of Godawan, creating an exclusive whisky that embodies the spirit of Indian and specifically, Rajasthani exceptionalism.
The Godawan Single Malt is named after the Great Indian Bustard, a critically endangered bird native to the arid landscapes of Rajasthan. This whisky not only pays homage to this majestic bird but also aligns with conservation efforts aimed at preserving its habitat. Crafted from locally sourced six-row barley from Rajasthan and Punjab, the whisky undergoes a two-copper pot distillation process and is non-chill filtered, resulting in a complex world of flavours. Each of the 300 limited-edition bottles is a testament to meticulous artistry and dedication. The whisky itself boasts a rich dark brown hue, with a gentle and mellow nose. Aromatic notes of vanilla, cream, and fresh wood, complemented by a hint of cinnamon, create a complex bouquet. On the palate, the whisky offers a smooth, warm, and elegant richness, culminating in a long, sweet, and spicy finish with a lingering woody taste.
This collaboration is rooted in a shared vision of conscious consumption and mindful luxury. Taj, recognised as the World’s Strongest Hotel Brand in 2024, brings its legacy of Indian hospitality and heritage conservation to the partnership. Diageo India, a leader in the beverage alcohol industry, contributes its expertise in crafting premium spirits. Hina Nagarajan, Managing Director & CEO of Diageo India, highlighted the significance of this partnership, stating, "This collaboration stands as a testament to our continued progress on sustainability and conservation while elevating luxury spirit experiences for our consumers. Godawan Exclusive for the Palaces of Taj is a purpose-backed whisky that reflects Indian craftsmanship and luxury."
Mr. Taljinder Singh, Senior Vice President & Brand Custodian of IHCL, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing Taj’s commitment to preserving historical landmarks and natural ecosystems. "As custodians of India's storied heritage, Taj remains committed to preserving historical landmarks and championing the conservation of our natural ecosystems. This collaboration embodies our commitment to luxury with a purpose, ensuring that our actions today lay the foundation for a sustainable tomorrow."
