ARTISTS OF THE YEAR

What was most heartening this year were the progressive conversations artists were encouraging and engaging in with their works. From feisty conversations about sexuality, the female body, gender identity, and LGBT rights and issues, to politics, revolution, and protest art. Ravi Amar Zupa’s works particularly stand out for their unique style, and strong, individual voice. Srishti Guptaroy and Darsh’s illustrations celebrate femininity and female identity. Artist collectives like Kinky Kashayam encourage conversations, making art the medium for new thought and change. More power to such young independent artists, and may they encourage many more such intrepid voices.
