Can Varun Dhawan’s New Hair Look Become A Trend in 2024?
Can Varun Dhawan’s New Hair Look Become Sought-After Trend of 2024?

Apparently, mullets for men are in for this year

The OG ‘Student of the Year’ made a stylish appearance recently at one of the press events. Apart from the fact that he was there to promote his niece’s foray into the industry, his new hair look grabbed attention and for all the right reasons. Seen in a fresh mullet haircut, it was a fresh look, different from his usual hairstyle.

While the hair look is seen for the first time in 2024, it takes its inspiration from the ‘80s. The disco era, the bling, and the retro vibe–this is what describes the hair look for those unknown. Who can (ever) forget Elvis Presley and his many versions of wearing a mullet. Recently, many celebrities like Saltwater actor Jacob Elordi and Bollywood actor Vidyut Jammwal have been seen sporting the look. “It’s an iconic look from the ‘80s and what we see now is its restyling. Think of it as (the shape of) question mark around the shape of the head, like a quaff cut and styled in multiple different ways,” says Deepak Jhalan, celebrity hairstylist and Creative Director at Looks Prive. With festivities and celebrations scheduled for the rest of the year, the question is 'will mullet enter the list of hair trends of 2024?’

According to the internet and experts, mullet is ‘quite a trend’ currently. So, to say that we may see more of it on runways with many more celebrities sporting the look wouldn’t be wrong. “The trend picked up globally last year, and it’s going to have a good run,” says Jhalan. But is it for everyone? “I would say everyone can try it, however those with natural texture in hair have it easy to maintain a mullet. For others, it requires constant styling to make the texture pop,” says Jhalan. The point is hair texture plays an important role in achieving the perfect look with a mullet. “I’d say that wearing a mullet is like playing with the craft of achieving and enhancing hair texture; the final look depends on how it suits the face shape, and everyone might not be able to carry it with the same panache that the cut requires,” adds Jhalan.

If you plan to give it a try, be aware that apart from styling it regularly for texture, one has to keep shaping it every two to three weeks to maintain the ideal length. According to Jhalan, there are many variations to the look. “It can go short or long at the back depending on what suits an individual,” he adds. To maintain it and make it last longer, make sure that you invest in a texture spray and a long-hold setting spray. Also, do consult with your hairstylist before sitting in the chair.
