This is disturbing, to say the least. Even though India has banned pornography entirely, the country continues to be one of the biggest contributors and consumers of child abuse content in the world. According to the India Child Protection Fund (ICPF), millions of paedophiles, child rapists and child pornography addicts have

 

increased their activities online.

 

The report goes on to state that, data from Pornhub, the largest pornography website in the world, shows that traffic from India on its website has increased by 95% between 24th and 26th March 2020, as compared to

 

their average traffic, pre-Coronavirus. This increase has naturally been fuelled by Pornhub making its premium content free during the lockdown.

 

The report also states that there has been a surge in search for keywords like ‘child porn’, ‘sexy child’ and ‘teen sex videos’ and it is only expected to spike in the coming weeks.

 

According to Vice India, the ICPF “was set up in January 2020 by Nobel Laureate Kailash Satyarthi’s son Bhuvan Ribhu, to support NGOs with funding resources for curbing the exploitation of children”.

 

A recent report from the Childline India Helpline also affirms this trend of increased vulnerability of children to sexual abuse during this period. The helpline received more than 92,000 SOS calls asking for protection from abuse and violence, 11 days into the national lockdown.
