Hollywood Actresses On Gender Pay Gap In The Industry
5 Hollywood Actresses Who Had No Qualms About Discussing Their Low Paychecks

It’s truly an unfair place to be in

The pay parity dispute has been a long-standing issue in myriad industries across the globe. It’s barely surprising to note how male and female artists are offered shockingly different wages for being part of the same projects. While the topic continues to be an open secret, a volley of actresses in Hollywood have used their influence to voice their stance on this ordeal:

According to recent reports, Howard was paid a whopping 20 percent lesser than Chriss Patt in the movie, Jurassic World. She was given a pay cheque of $8 million, while Patt received $ 10 million. In an interesting reveal, Howard claimed that those figures were wrong and she was paid a lot lesser than what was being speculated.

Sharon Stone

In February, Stone opened up about the disparity in the paycheques of co-star Michael Douglas and herself for the 1992 movie Basic Instinct. 30 years later, Stone revealed how Douglas got $ 14 million while she was paid a meager $500, 000. In a bid to get even, the actress ensured that she got to keep her character’s costumes for herself.

Ellen Pompeo

Grey’s Anatomy  is synonymous with Pompeo because she was the face of the series. But in 2019, the actress stated that Patrick Dempsey was being paid almost double her salary. It was then in season 3 that Pompeo renegotiated the terms and got a fair deal.

Neve Campbell

In August this year, Campbell hinted at the prevalent gender pay gap in one of her interviews for Scream 6. The Canadian actress said, “I did not feel that what I was being offered equated to the value that I bring to this franchise, and have brought to this franchise, for 25 years. In my soul, I just couldn’t do that. I couldn’t walk on set feeling that – feeling undervalued and feeling the unfairness, or lack of fairness, around that. As a woman in this business, I think it’s really important for us to be valued and to fight to be valued.”

Claire Foy

Foy essayed the role of Queen Elizabeth in the series The Crown. In 2018, she referred to this project as an embarrassment. According to the reports, Foy just go and the budget per episode was $ 7 million. “I certainly won’t be naive about those things. It’s really opened my eyes about what I am allowed to have an opinion about, and what I’m allowed to stand up for myself about. And I think that’s really changed my approach to myself and other women in this industry. It’s been only a positive thing – even though, embarrassing,” she added.
