Google Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro Land In India

Long overdue, the Google Pixel 7 duo have been launched in India along with global markets. Here’s your quick cheat sheet to what they are packing

The last time Google launched a flagship in smartphone in India was the Google Pixel 3 and 3XL, back in 2018. While we’ve seen some of the ‘a series’ devices including the Google Pixel 6a debut in India, the launch of the Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro along with other key global markets is a significant India market move from Google. One that many of us might say was long overdue. We were impressed with our first brush with the Google Pixel 7 duo at the India launch event. Here’s your cheat sheet:

A cool palette of colours

The Pixel 7 and 7 Pro come in Snow and Obsidian colour options but it’s the cool Lemongrass variant in the Pixel 7 and the groovy Hazel shade in the 7 Pro that has our attention. The Pixel 7 sports a brushed aluminium look while the 7 Pro looks even more premium with a shiny, polished chassis. We dig the design language. Google confirmed that the aluminium enclosure for both phones is crafted with 100% recycled content.

The Pixel 7 vs Pixel 7 Pro

The Google Pixel 7 comes with a 6.3-inch OLED display that features a 90Hz refresh rate. It feels great in your hand – it weighs under 200 gm. There’s a dual rear cam with a 50MP primary lens and a 12MP ultra-wide lens. The Pixel 7 Pro boasts of a gorgeous 6.7-inch LTPO AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate that peaks at 1500 nits. The big differentiator between the two devices is the 48MP telephoto lens that allows you to shoot at 5X optical zoom. The triple rear cam on the device also features a 50MP primary lens and 12MP ultra-wide lens.

Both smartphones are powered by Google’s own Tensor G2 chipset – a 4nm chipset with 2 Cortex-X1 cores, two Cortex-A76 cores and four Cortex-A55 cores. Google also played up the M2 Titan chip that is built with multiple layers of security to help keep you safe and secure. According to Google, Titan M2 makes your phone more resilient to sophisticated attacks.

The love of the camera

The Google Pixel camera is already one of our favourite smartphone cams. The Pixel 7 and Pro take it to the next level with a whole new bag of tricks. We enjoyed using Magic Eraser on the Pixel 6a, that is also available on these devices. There’s a new guided frame for selfies that uses haptic and audio cues to help you frame the perfect selfie. The other killer feature could well be Photo unblur that allows you to fix images (even images shot on other devices). Google is also touting features like Real Tone for more realistic skin tones and its improved Night Sight solution for great images and videos in lowlight. We’re also looking forward to checking out active stabilisation that adjusts the camera for shakes and blurs.
