Born in Virginia, Pharrell began his journey of art through music. In 2008, he co-designed a collection of sunglasses and jewellery for Louis Vuitton, and I guess that’s where he laid the foundation for what has been one of his biggest achievements. in 2023, Louis Vuitton appointed him as the creative director for menswear and he presented his first collection in June 2023, putting up one of the most spectacular fashion shows that the world ever saw. Choir, live music, a golden ramp and the historic Pont Neuf bridge, almost felt like a crowning ceremony. Pharrell’s creative prowess extends far beyond music. He’s a fashion icon, a trendsetter whose style is a mesmerizing fusion of streetwear and high fashion. His signature accessory, a never-ageing hat, has become a symbol of his timeless coolness. Whether he’s collaborating with fashion houses like Chanel or launching his lines, Pharrell’s influence on the fashion world is undeniable, and now that he sits on the throne of one of the biggest fashion houses, It remains to be seen how exciting this new chapter at LV will be.

He began his career as an assistant menswear designer at Gucci, diligently climbing the ranks within the fashion industry. It’s not an exaggeration to label him as Tom Ford’s closest confidant, considering that he was the very first person Ford reached out to when starting his fashion label after departing from Gucci. Their partnership spans nearly a quarter-century, and Tom’s unwavering faith in him became evident when he swiftly appointed him as the new creative director at Tom Ford this year. 

 

Reflecting on this enduring collaboration, he shared, “You see, after spending 25 years working closely with Tom, his distinctive style and influences have become an intrinsic part of my design philosophy. This immersion inspired me to craft my unique aesthetic, one that embodies glamour, elegance, sensuality, and beauty. Last night, I had the privilege of unveiling my vision on the catwalk during my debut show as the creative director of Tom Ford at Milan Fashion Week.” These words were conveyed by Hawkings during a podcast with Imran Amed, marking a significant milestone in his career. But, after being a menswear designer for most of his career, it would be interesting to see what kind of change he brought to Tom Ford. Will the glamour be sustained?

Sabato Di Sarno has showcased his prowess as a ready-to-wear designer, excelling in both men’s and women’s fashion categories. Hailing from the fashion mecca of Italy, Sabato is on a mission to infuse Gucci with an authentic Italian essence, a task he has admirably accomplished. 

 

During his much-anticipated debut show at Milan Fashion Week, as models gracefully paraded down the crimson runway, every garment exuded a distinct Italian flair, evoking a sense of familiarity reminiscent of the streets of Italy. Sabato’s track record at Valentino is a testament to his unique ability to balance commercial appeal with boundless creativity. 

 

From his Spring/Summer 2024 collection, it becomes abundantly clear that Gucci is in capable hands. Sean McGirr: Charting a New Course for Alexander McQueen Kering’s recent restructuring has infused the fashion world with a fresh burst of vitality. Following the transformation at Gucci, it was the turn of Alexander McQueen. At the Paris Fashion Week, a poignant farewell was bid to Sarah Burton, who had been an integral part of the house for an impressive 13 years. This transition opens the door for Sean McGirr, a rising talent in the fashion world. 

 

Hailing from Ireland and having honed his craft at the prestigious Central Saint Martins, Sean McGirr brings a youthful vigour to the brand. His previous role as the head of menswear design at JW Anderson, combined with experiences at Burberry and Dries Van Noten, where he worked on womenswear, has equipped him with a diverse skill set. 

 

The anticipation is palpable as we await Sean’s interpretation of the McQueen legacy and its rich history. It’s a moment of transformation and evolution for the iconic fashion house, and Sean McGirr’s fresh perspective is set to chart a new course for Alexander McQueen.

Peter Do: The Enigmatic Designer Reimagining Helmut Lang Helmut Lang has long been synonymous with a minimalist design ethos, characterized by its clean lines, understated silhouettes, and unwavering commitment to precision and craftsmanship. However, after the departure of Mr. Lang in 2005, the label experienced a decline, losing the essence of the design principles upon which it was built. 

 

Now, the responsibility of rejuvenating Helmut Lang has fallen to Peter Do, a relatively enigmatic designer known for his discreet public presence, often donning a mask at public events and gatherings. He is a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology and is a 2014 LVMH Graduate Prize winner and a 2020 LVMH Prize for Young Designers finalist. Formerly worked at CELINE and now serve as the Creative Director of Helmut Lang. Peter Do unveiled his inaugural collection for the brand at New York Fashion Week, and it became the talk of the fashion world. Additionally, he manages his eponymous label, which showcased a collection at Paris Fashion Week. 

 

The burning question on everyone’s minds is whether Peter Do will succeed in recapturing the essence of Helmut Lang’s heyday. Only time will reveal the direction in which he takes this iconic fashion house and whether he can reignite the brand’s former glory. 

 

 

Daniel Lee: Burberry’s Visionary Transformation 

 

Amidst the significant shifts occurring within the fashion industry powerhouse Kearing, another noteworthy figure, Daniel Lee, found himself thrust into the limelight. Sharing a common alma mater with several other prominent designers, Central Saint Martins, Lee embarked on his career journey as an intern at Balenciaga. Subsequently, he secured a full-time position at Donna Karen, before eventually making his mark at Celine, where he played a pivotal role in assisting Phoebe Philo in crafting the brand’s distinctive and wildly popular minimalist aesthetic. 

 

In a pivotal moment in 2023, Burberry made a groundbreaking announcement: Riccardo Tisci, the creative director at the time, would be stepping down from his role. This significant change was part of a broader series of high-level executive shifts within the company, which included the departure of CFO Julie Brown and the appointment of Jonathan Akeroyd as the new CEO. It was in September 2022 that Daniel Lee’s name was unveiled as the successor to Tisci, now holding the esteemed title of Chief Creative Officer at Burberry. 

 

The fashion world eagerly anticipated Lee’s debut for Burberry, and it finally arrived with the Autumn/Winter 2023 collection. Under his creative stewardship, the brand unveiled not only a captivating new campaign but also a redesigned logo, featuring the iconic Equestrian Knight emblem from the year 1901. Lee’s appointment marked a pivotal moment in Burberry’s history, setting the stage for exciting transformations and innovative designs under his visionary leadership.
