The changes will only be cosmetic and won’t hamper the functioning of both these apps
Instagram and WhatsApp are arguably the most popular apps used today. If you didn’t know, Instagram and WhatsApp are owned by Facebook and the company now wants to rename both its apps.
Facebook acquired Instagram in 2012 and WhatsApp in 2015. And even though Facebook has left these two apps to be their own separate entities for all these years, they just want a slight cosmetic change to let people know who their daddy is.
Both these apps will soon be officially called “Instagram from Facebook” and “WhatsApp from Facebook.” But you, as a user, don’t have to worry about this change because it won’t hamper the functioning of both these apps in any way.
The changes are also expected to show on the app’s title in the Apple app store and Google play store. The Verge noted that the apps may also display a splash screen that says “From Facebook” when the app is launched by a user.
The Information was the first to break the story after a Facebook spokesperson explained the upcoming changes to them. “We want to be clearer about the products and services that are part of Facebook,” the spokesperson said.
