Here's Why Jimmy Kimmel Is Receiving Hate Online
Jimmy Kimmel Draws Major Flak For Lying Onstage Amid Quinta Brunson’s Emmy Speech

Kimmel really tried hard to steal Brunson’s thunder!

The Emmys 2022 was a night of many firsts including Quinta Brunson grabbing her first-ever award for Abbott Elementary. She bagged the award for best writing in a comedy series and to present the award came Will Arnett and Jimmy Kimmel on-stage. It was a moment of significance for her, which was somehow ruined by Kimmel’s silly act. The Internet was enraged and did not spare the talk show host from some major backlash.

What conspired on the stage did not sit well with fans. A seemingly passed-out Kimmel arrived on the stage with Arnett. The actor told the crowd that he’s sloshed because this is the “13th time in a row that he’s lost and he just got into the skinny margaritas back there.” He laid there on the stage till Brunson arrived.

Arnett tried to push Kimmel out of the way but Kimmel made no effort to move. A little bothered by this, she even told the host, “Jimmy, wake up. I won.” He raised his thumb to answer her and continued to lie down on the stage throughout her speech. It was until she finished talking that Arnett dragged him away.

Fans clearly did not like the disrespect and called him out on Twitter. Sharing the picture of this moment, Kimmel was called ‘jealous’, ‘entitled’, ‘nonsense’ by people. “I think we all understand he didn’t do it out of malice, but Jimmy Kimmel minimized and basically pissed all over Quinta Brunson’s Emmy win. Don’t steal someone’s moment from them,” wrote a user.

While the Internet was enraged, Brunson seemed to be not bothered by this silly act. She talked about the moment backstage, saying it “didn’t bother me that much”, adding that Kimmel was the first host to provide her a major late-night appearance.

“I think at that moment, I was just really happy that it was Jimmy up there. I kind of consider him one of the comedy godfathers; I’m a huge fan of Will Arnett, so I was wrapped up at the moment. I don’t know — tomorrow maybe I’ll be mad at him. I’m gonna be on his show on Wednesday, so I might punch him in the face. I don’t know. We’ll see what happens,” she told the media.

Well, Jimmy Kimmel or not, no one can steal the thunder from Quinta Brunson. She took home her first Emmy award and became the third Black person, and second Black woman, to win the prestigious title for writing for a comedy series after Larry Wilmore and Lena Waithe.
