The Mercedes-Benz AMG EQS 53 Launches As India’s Highest-Range EV For Rs. 2.45 Crore

It can be topped up to get a range of 300kms in just 19 minutes!

There’s a new AMG in town, but instead of packing a high-performance ICE engine, it has an all-electric heart! Just today, Mercedes-Benz India launched the AMG EQS 53 for Rs. 2.45 crore. While the new AMG model will be brought here via the CBU route, the brand also confirmed that it will be releasing the standard EQS next month, which will be locally assembled at its factory in Chakan, Pune.

Design-wise, while it is technically part of the coveted S-Class family, the EQS 53 couldn’t look any more different. This comes down to its redesigned front grille, which is now closed off and is flanked by LED headlamps. There’s also a full-width LED strip at the front which runs along the front width of the car, which looks rather neat according to us.

The EQS also gets a sloped roofline, giving it a coupe-like silhouette, while the back is dominated by LED taillamps, which look similar to the one seen on the S-Class. The AMG badging is spread across its bodywork, like on the front grille, side panels and the alloys.

Inside of the sedan is dominated by Mercede’s MBUX Hyperscreen, a 56-inch-long slab of glass comprising three displays underneath it. Apart from driver aid information and infotainment controls, it also gets an AMG-specific instrument cluster, multimedia display and heads-up display.

Unveiled back in September 2021, the EQS 53 is set to shake up the performance-focused electric segment in India. Why do you ask? For starters, the sedan packs two electric motors – one at each axle. With standard equipment it makes 658PS of power and 950Nm of torque, helping it sprint from 0 to 100kmph in just 3.8 seconds, with a top speed of 220kmph. There are also five different driving modes on offer here – Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport+, and Individual.

Mercedes also offers an optional “Dynamic Plus Package” internationally, which boosts these figures to 761PS and 1050Nm of torque, reducing the 0-100kmph sprint time to just 3.4 seconds. Coming to battery capacity, Mercedes claims its high-voltage 107.8 kWh battery pack offers a range of 529-586 km per charge (WLTP cycle), giving it the longest range figures in India’s current EV market. When it comes to topping up, the EV can be charged to get a range of 300km in just 19 minutes, using a 200kW fast charger.

We for one can’t wait to get behind its wheel. Until then, stay tuned and watch this space.
