Shetty,
a Femina Miss India 2000 finalist and Vatika
Ford Supermodel 2002 Ist runners-up, took
up martial arts “because it keeps you
fit and I have always been a sports-oriented
person. Besides being a woman in Mumbai, learning
self-defence has become imperative,”
says the 5 feet 9-inch model, who has acted
in movies such as Bas Yun Hi and Meenaxi and
is now looking forward to the release of her
forthcoming movie, Kabhi Socha Bhi Na Tha.
“The film is metro-centric and examines
changing relationships, be it between a husband
and wife, friends, live-in relationships and
the like,” says Shetty.
The leggy woman started learning karate about
five years ago. “Karate naturally changes
your posture, body language and tones up your
body.” The men at MW agree, especially
the about the list bit. “And with my
height, I guess I do look intimidating. Thankfully
I haven’t yet come across a situation
where I needed to defend myself physically.”
The boys out here won’t let that happen,
sweetheart. They will die to protect that
body.
